Description
The SFF-8643 8i is a 72-pin high-density Mini SAS connector with a plastic body interface typically used for internal connections, primarily used to implement HD SAS internal interconnect solutions. Typical applications are internal SAS links between SAS HBAs and SAS drive subsystems. The SFF-8643 is compliant with the SAS 3.0 specification and supports 12Gbps data transfer protocol.
The SFF-8639, or U.2, is a 68-pin drive interface connector for connecting Multilink SAS drives or PCIe drives (including hard disk drives, SSD drives, etc.). With high speed, low latency and low power consumption, it supports the NVMe standard protocol and travels on PCI-E 3.0 x4 lanes, with theoretical transfer speeds of up to 32 Gbps. At the same time, the U.2 is not only able to support the SATA-Express specification, but is also compatible with SAS, SATA, and other specifications.
The U.2 / U.3 SFF-8639 is a flexible, robust and cost-effective connector and cable assembly solution that helps server and network equipment design flexibility, reduces overall space and extends the reach of high data rate signals. The solution can be used for 32GT / s PCIe5.0 signaling applications.
